The Flavour of Contemporary Ethnic Malaysian Music
Unity Through Music

Inner Voices heralds the beginning of a fresh new experience in the
movement of contemporary Malaysian Music.

Fifty years after achieving 1957, we observe the tremendous progress
and development achieved by Malaysia and Malaysians on a whole,
across a multitude of aspects in politics and economy. Uniquely,
Malaysia is well-known as one of the few countries worldwide that
boasts the success of multi-culture, ethnic and integration, with
communities living, laughing and prospering together. The core of
this success is built on an intricate blend of patience and
understanding which developed among the people after a long process
of assimilation over the years - from interracial marriages, fusion
of culinary experiences, educational exposure and even cross
celebration of religious events.

On the musical front however, harmonisation of what we will term as
the 'Malaysian Music' is still in its infant stage of evolution. It
is observed till today that various elements of local cultures and
its musical elements are by and large segregated individually to its
traditional cultural forms.

Inner Voices will bring the essence of the music combining four of
the main cultures present in Malaysia, bringing together Western and
traditional Malaysian instruments, to showcase and highlight the
beauty of harmonising of these elements, creating a fusion that will
possibly evolves into a whole new sound.

Let's Go Mamak will be a showcase of original compositions and
arrangements by local composer/arranger Ken Hor, and performed by a
stalwart group of local musicians specialising in various genres -
from Malay, Chinese, Indian to Western. The Musical collaboration
will be guided under the musical direction of a local saxophonist,
Julian Chan.

Let's Go Mamak features some of the most prominent names in Malaysian
Music Industry including New York-based saxophonist Julian Chan and
violinist Fung Chern Hwei, BOH Awards recipient Prakash on tabla,
Jimmy Ch'ng from Hands Percussion Team, sought-after jazz pianist Tay
Cher Siang, and the renown percussionist Kamrulbahri Hussin.
